How to Hook Up Your Computer

Did you just move, purchase a new computer, or just get your computer back from the shop? Many people are intimidated when it comes to hooking up their computer. With a few simple tips in this article, you'll be up and running in no time!

First things first, learning what different ports look like. Here is a list, with pictures, of the ports you will need to be familiar with to hook up your computer;

PS/2 Ports
Monitor Ports
USB Ports
Power Port

You only need a few things connected to start using your computer. You need a mouse and keyboard, a monitor of some sort, and power.

First plug in the power and your mouse and keyboard. Most computers will have a power port that looks similar to the one pictured. Mice and keyboards can vary. They will either be plugged in using the PS/2 ports pictured or the USB ports.
If your mouse and keyboard use PS/2 ports, match the colors and pictures to your device and plug it in. The port is keyed, which means it will only plug in one way. Don't force it! Turn the plug if it doesn't fit correctly the first time.
If your mouse and keyboard use USB ports, plug them into any available USB port you find.

Next plug in your monitor. Your monitor also has its own power cord that you need to plug in. Next, plug it into your computer. You will use a VGA or DVI port to connect your computer and monitor together. Only use one though, not both. If you can, use DVI because it can give you a better quality picture.

That's it! You have connected everything you need to in order to get up and running! But what about my printer, camera and other devices, you ask?
